clearcoat
Provides a float value to control the intensity of a transparent top-layer coating, simulating materials like car paint or varnished wood.
Core Advantages
Abstracts the complex physics of a dual-layer PBR material into a single, intuitive float property (`material.clearcoat`), seamlessly integrating a high-quality clear coat effect into the standard physical material workflow.
Common Uses
Simulating multi-layer car paint with a glossy top coat.
Creating realistic varnished wood or polished furniture.
Rendering carbon fiber with its characteristic epoxy resin coating.
Mimicking wet surfaces by adding a reflective water film.
How to adjust
Modify the `material.clearcoat` property in JavaScript (from 0 to 1). A value of 0 means no effect. As the value increases, a second, sharper layer of reflection appears over the base material, creating depth. At 1, the surface has a strong, glass-like coating.
Code Examples
1// Connect the clearcoat node to the material's clearcoat input
2material.clearcoatNode = clearcoat;
